Updating Renault's maps allows you to keep more recent maps for on-board navigation, including roads, limits, points of interest and routes available according to your multimedia system.
For compatible systems, Renault offers a dedicated software called Alliance Connect Toolbox. It lets you search for available updates from the VIN of the vehicle, and then download the maps on a USB stick.
Before you begin, you should know that the map update can only be done if thesubscription map of the vehicle is still valid.
- For vehicles delivered until 2024, the subscription map is generally valid 3 years from the date of delivery of the vehicle.
- On the newer vehicles that meet the regulatory GSR2 and equipped of MySafety, the map updates are valid 10 years from the delivery date of the vehicle.
- A computer using Windows or macOS.
- The official software Alliance Connect Toolbox.
- A USB stick 32 Gb or less, ideally empty.
- A stable Internet connection, because the map files may be large.
- The VIN of the vehicle, also called chassis number.
Download the appropriate version for your computer, and then install the software by following the on-screen instructions.
- Download Alliance Connect Toolbox for your system.
- Install the software on your computer.
- Once the installation is complete, launch the software.
- Keep your USB stick close for the rest of the procedure.
Before you download the maps, use a USB stick that is clean and reliable. A stick of poor quality or badly formatted may cause a failure of detection or installation in the vehicle.
- Plug the USB stick on your computer.
- Back up the content, as necessary, as it will be cleared during the preparation.
- Format it in FAT32 if possible.
- Avoid low-end USB adapters or very old sticks.
In Alliance Connect Toolbox, fill in the VIN of your Renault. The software will then check if a map update is available for your vehicle.
- Open Alliance Connect Toolbox.
- Enter the complete VIN of the vehicle.
- Check that there is no input error : letters, digits, no spaces.
- Let the software search for the available updates.
In some cases, the Toolbox may require access to the vehicle to precisely identify the multimedia system and installed maps.
- Go to the vehicle with an empty USB stick.
- Start the engine and turn on the multimedia screen.
- Insert the USB stick into the USB port of the vehicle.
- Wait for the system to write the necessary information on the key.
- Remove the USB device only when the operation is completed.
- Then reconnect the USB on the computer and then restart Alliance Connect Toolbox.
Once the vehicle is recognized, Alliance Connect Toolbox displays the available maps. Depending on the vehicle and on the multimedia system, it may be possible to download a complete geographic area or only certain regions.
- Select the map update offered.
- Choose the cards or boxes available if the software offers.
- Start to download.
- Wait until the end of the copy on the USB key.
- Once the download is completed, eject the USB stick from the computer.
- Go to the vehicle with the USB stick.
- Start the engine and let it run during the whole procedure.
- Insert the USB stick into the USB port on the multimedia system.
- Accept the update when a message appears on the screen.
- Wait until the end of the installation.
When the installation is complete, the multimedia system may ask for a restart, or display a confirmation message.
- Remove the USB key only when the system allows.
- Reboot the multimedia system if necessary.
- Open the navigation to verify that the cards are well accessible.
- If an abnormal behavior appears, lock the vehicle and let it rest for a few minutes.
If the update does not start or fails, check the following points :
- The USB stick is recognized by the computer and the vehicle.
- The USB stick is correctly formatted.
- The files have been copied by Alliance Connect Toolbox.
- The VIN has been entered correctly.
- The subscription map is still valid.
- The engine remained on during the entire procedure.
- The USB key has not been removed during the download or installation.
The update of the maps is the same thing that an update EasyLink ?
No. The map update for the navigation data. It does not necessarily update the system software media.
Why no update is available ?
It may come from a VIN entered incorrectly, a USB stick which is not recognized, a vehicle already up to date or cartographic subscription expired.
How long is the subscription map ?
For vehicles manufactured before 2024, the validity period is generally 3 years from the date of delivery. On newer GSR2 vehicles equipped with MySafety, map updates are valid for 10 years from the date of delivery.
Why is my VIN not recognized ?
This can happen if the vehicle is not yet identified in the Toolbox or if the system needs to generate a fingerprint via USB key from the vehicle.
The navigation can disappear if the update fails ?
An interruption to, or a USB key to be defective can cause an incomplete installation. It is then necessary to redo the complete update of the maps.
Should I let the engine run ?
Yes, it is highly recommended to keep the engine running during the installation in order to avoid a power outage.
RexoMods does not provide a map file and is not affiliated with Renault. This guide describes only the general procedure to update the tool via a formal Alliance Connect Toolbox. The steps may vary depending on the vehicle, the country, the multimedia system and the rights of update available.
