How to update the maps Renault ?

Updating Renault's maps allows you to keep more recent maps for on-board navigation, including roads, limits, points of interest and routes available according to your multimedia system.

For compatible systems, Renault offers a dedicated software called Alliance Connect Toolbox. It lets you search for available updates from the VIN of the vehicle, and then download the maps on a USB stick.

Important : this guide only applies to the update navigation maps. It is not a software update EasyLink, openR link, R-Link, Media Nav. RexoMods is not responsible in case of mishandling, disruption, or incompatibility.
Check the validity of the maps subscription

Before you begin, you should know that the map update can only be done if thesubscription map of the vehicle is still valid.

  • For vehicles delivered until 2024, the subscription map is generally valid 3 years from the date of delivery of the vehicle.
  • On the newer vehicles that meet the regulatory GSR2 and equipped of MySafety, the map updates are valid 10 years from the delivery date of the vehicle.
Remember : if the subscription is expired, Alliance Connect Toolbox cannot suggest any update, even if a newer map exists.
Prerequisites
  • A computer using Windows or macOS.
  • The official software Alliance Connect Toolbox.
  • A USB stick 32 Gb or less, ideally empty.
  • A stable Internet connection, because the map files may be large.
  • The VIN of the vehicle, also called chassis number.
Tip : the VIN is typically located on the gray card, in the field E. It often begins by VF1 for a Renault vehicle.
Download Alliance Connect Toolbox

Download the appropriate version for your computer, and then install the software by following the on-screen instructions.

  1. Download Alliance Connect Toolbox for your system.
  2. Install the software on your computer.
  3. Once the installation is complete, launch the software.
  4. Keep your USB stick close for the rest of the procedure.
Prepare the USB key

Before you download the maps, use a USB stick that is clean and reliable. A stick of poor quality or badly formatted may cause a failure of detection or installation in the vehicle.

  1. Plug the USB stick on your computer.
  2. Back up the content, as necessary, as it will be cleared during the preparation.
  3. Format it in FAT32 if possible.
  4. Avoid low-end USB adapters or very old sticks.
Important : Renault recommends to use an USB stick of at least 32 Gb or less for this procedure. If the stick is not recognized, try a different USB stick.
Enter the VIN of the vehicle

In Alliance Connect Toolbox, fill in the VIN of your Renault. The software will then check if a map update is available for your vehicle.

  1. Open Alliance Connect Toolbox.
  2. Enter the complete VIN of the vehicle.
  3. Check that there is no input error : letters, digits, no spaces.
  4. Let the software search for the available updates.
VIN is not recognized : if the software doesn't recognize the vehicle, it may be necessary to retrieve the information in the multimedia system from the car with a USB flash drive, and then restart the research on the computer.
If necessary : retrieve the information of the vehicle

In some cases, the Toolbox may require access to the vehicle to precisely identify the multimedia system and installed maps.

  1. Go to the vehicle with an empty USB stick.
  2. Start the engine and turn on the multimedia screen.
  3. Insert the USB stick into the USB port of the vehicle.
  4. Wait for the system to write the necessary information on the key.
  5. Remove the USB device only when the operation is completed.
  6. Then reconnect the USB on the computer and then restart Alliance Connect Toolbox.
Tip : do not remove the USB stick too quickly. Always wait for the multimedia system has finished his treatment.
Download maps

Once the vehicle is recognized, Alliance Connect Toolbox displays the available maps. Depending on the vehicle and on the multimedia system, it may be possible to download a complete geographic area or only certain regions.

  1. Select the map update offered.
  2. Choose the cards or boxes available if the software offers.
  3. Start to download.
  4. Wait until the end of the copy on the USB key.
To know : the download may take a long time. Avoid closing the software, put the computer into sleep mode or remove the USB drive during the operation.
Install the update in the vehicle
  1. Once the download is completed, eject the USB stick from the computer.
  2. Go to the vehicle with the USB stick.
  3. Start the engine and let it run during the whole procedure.
  4. Insert the USB stick into the USB port on the multimedia system.
  5. Accept the update when a message appears on the screen.
  6. Wait until the end of the installation.
Warning : do not cut off the contact, do not remove the USB device and do not interrupt the installation. An interrupt may cause a mapping to be incomplete or unusable.
After the update

When the installation is complete, the multimedia system may ask for a restart, or display a confirmation message.

  • Remove the USB key only when the system allows.
  • Reboot the multimedia system if necessary.
  • Open the navigation to verify that the cards are well accessible.
  • If an abnormal behavior appears, lock the vehicle and let it rest for a few minutes.
In case of issues

If the update does not start or fails, check the following points :

  • The USB stick is recognized by the computer and the vehicle.
  • The USB stick is correctly formatted.
  • The files have been copied by Alliance Connect Toolbox.
  • The VIN has been entered correctly.
  • The subscription map is still valid.
  • The engine remained on during the entire procedure.
  • The USB key has not been removed during the download or installation.
Simple solution : if the update fails, restart the procedure from the beginning with a different USB flash stick reliable.
